Day 8 Friday May 15: Istrian Hilltop Treasures Portorož - Grožnjan - The Motovun - Poreč
We arrived at a graveyard. Cremation is not accepted
At this fountain below you could get water and wash clothes.
We visited an Artist colony with 13th century cobblestones that we easy for horses to navigate.
After the artist colony we headed for the Truffle Shop where we learn the many foods containing truffles, including spreads, vinegars, chocolates, cheeses and more. With that meager knowledge. we were off to hunt for Truffles with our guide and two dogs.
We donned our shoe protection and went off in the mud and rain with our trusty dogs to
hunt for truffles. The dogs keen sense of smell triggered a dig that would reveal the truffle. The trainer would then kiss the dog on the nose to stop the digging and retrieve the truffle. The smallest dog won the prize for finding the most truffles. Good Dog!
She took it with a smile and enjoyed the hunt anyway. Most of us will be doing laundry tonight for mud stains, but it was fun learning how the hunt is done and why truffles are so expensive.
At Motovun we trekked 1 mile up 656 feet of elevation. it was tough. Then Randy and the others went to the top of the church tower another 100 feet. I stayed behind.
