Day 7 Thursday May14 Diversity of Slovenia Ljubljana - Postojna Cave - Goriška Hills - Portorož

We started out with an hours journey to the the Postoina caves. We were told the caves would be quite wet, especially the floor, but it won’t be slippery. We went a portion of the tour by a fast moving train followed by a trek of paths that went up and down narrow paths.

There were in total 24 kl of caves. 1/2 million years old. 250 years for  stalagmite to grow 1 in. Stalactite drips down stalagmite grows up. In the 1800 guides had push the trains. Now they are run with electricity.

Baby Dragon, also called an Olm live in the caves. They are  blind, can go 7 year without eating and lives for a hundred years.  Lunch was a hotdog with an ingenious bun. After caves we experienced a short rainstorm and then we were off to a winery.

On the way we were close to Italy. Farm land in Slovenia cost $15000/acre. Half of the town is in Italy and half in Slovenia.  We drove through Goriška Hills to avoid Italyas we would have to have a different license for Italy - the rain stopped long enough for us to walk through the a local artist colony.

Later we had a nice seafood dinner and enjoyed the views of the Asiatic ocean from our room
